High school seniors, college, and grad students, start your engines: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, otherwise known as the
FAFSA, will be available on October 1.
Though the federal deadline for this particular academic year is June 30, 2023, it’s best to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after the form becomes available. That’s because most states and colleges and universities distribute
financial aid on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Your best chance of qualifying for as much aid as possible is to submit your
FAFSA application as soon as possible – but also by the
state deadline, which are all listed below.
Know your state’s deadline, and gather all of the
materials you need in order to complete the FAFSA. It’s nearly go-time.
State Deadlines: A - D
Alabama – Check with your financial aid administrator.
Alaska -- Alaska Education Grant: ASAP after Oct. 1, 2021. Awards are made until funds are depleted. Alaska Performance Scholarship: For priority consideration, submit your application by June 30, 2022. Awards are made until funds are depleted.
Arizona – Check with your financial aid administrator.
Arkansas -- Academic Challenge: July 1, 2022. ArFuture Grant (fall term): July 1, 2022. ArFuture Grant (spring term): January 10, 2023.
California -- For many state financial aid programs: March 2, 2022 (date postmarked). Cal Grant also requires submission of a school-certified GPA by March 2, 2022. For additional community college Cal Grants: September 2, 2022. If you’re a noncitizen without a Social Security card or had one issued through the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, you should fill out the California Dream Act Application found at

District of Columbia -- For priority consideration, submit your FAFSA form by August 19, 2022. For the DC Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG), complete the DC OneApp and submit supporting documents by August 26, 2022, for priority consideration.

Pennsylvania – All first-time applicants enrolled in a community college, business, trade, or technical school, hospital school of nursing, designated Pennsylvania Open-Admission institution, or nontransferable two-year program: August 1, 2022.
