The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center Terrestrial Ecology Internship is available to currently enrolled undergraduate and master's students, or students who have recently graduated from undergraduate or master's programs. You must have strong academic credentials, relevant training or experience, letters of recommendation, and how well expressed goals align with the internship program to be considered for this position. Additionally, you should have familiarity with basic plant ecology and be comfortable working in nature (getting wet, cold/hot, and dirty). As an intern, you will work with the Terrestrial Ecology lab and assist with measuring the size (e.g., dbh) of ~8000 young trees in a forest restoration and diversity experiment on the SERC campus. Other anticipated work includes processing previously collected soil samples to prepare them for future genetic analyses. This 11-week internship is offered in Edgewater, MD.
