The Smithsonian National Zoo Veterinary Preceptorship is available to fourth-year veterinary students who are interested in zoological, wildlife, and conservation medicine. You must provide a negative tuberculin skin test result within six months of rotation and an up-to-date rabies prophylaxis to be eligible for this internship. An influenza vaccine is strongly encouraged. As an intern, you will gain experience by participating in all facets of the medical program at the Smithsonian National Zoo's facility including reviewing medical records in preparation for procedures, helping develop and monitor anesthetic protocols, exposure to preceptor knowledge and competency, and perform physical examinations on a variety of zoological species. This internship is located in Washington, DC.
