LIM College is a private, for-profit, specialized coeducational undergraduate and graduate educational institution focused on the business aspects of the fashion industry. It is located in Midtown Manhattan, and was founded in 1939 by Maxwell F. Marcuse as the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, at the behest of retailers who wanted a school that would teach students about the fashion business and merchandising. Maxwell Marcuse's son, Adrian G. Marcuse, was president from 1972 to 2002, followed by Elizabeth S. Marcuse. In 2009, the school changed its name to LIM College. Over the past 10 years, President Marcuse has significantly grown LIM College's student population and degree offerings. She has focused on making LIM College's students more globally and technologically competitive and responding to what the fashion industry needs from its workforce in the 21st century.
LIM College grants Bachelor's degrees in Fashion Merchandising, Visual Merchandising, Marketing, and Management, and associate degrees in Fashion Merchandising. LIM College also offers a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with concentrations in Fashion Management and Entrepreneurship and as of 2013, a Master of Professional Studies degree in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management, which will be able to be completed fully online as of Fall 2013.
