10 Best Colleges for Work Study Jobs and Aid
Does your college choice offer the most work study aid?
Last school year, according to CollegeBoard, nearly $240 billion dollars in financial aid was given to undergraduate and graduate students. Of that amount, only .4% was used for work study. While work study jobs only pay a little over $1,600 on average, as reported by NationalJournal.com, they are the best jobs a college student could possibly get. Work study jobs are oftentimes located near campus, offer flexible working hours and even allow for students to work on homework at the same time. Students can also have a choice in where their money goes – either to their tuition bill or toward spending money. Earlier this month, NationalJournal.com posted the top 10 colleges that offer the most work study aid:
10. Cornell University
9. International American University of Puerto Rico
8. University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)
7. ITT Technical Institute
6. DeVry University
5. Pennsylvania State University
4. University of Southern California
3. Columbia University
2. New York University
1. City University of New York
To qualify for work study aid, students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Additionally, students must qualify for work study in order to receive one of those jobs on campus. Students will discover whether or not they qualify for work study when they receive their financial aid package. It’s also considered self-help aid, just like student loans, because students must do some form of work or payoff for the aid. However, students that don’t qualify for work study can contact the financial aid office or human resources department on campus to ask about opportunities that are still open once students who qualify have found their jobs.
