National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15 to October 15. It's a time to recognize contributions from Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States as well as honor their culture, positive influence on America, and heritage. In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we've put together a list of scholarships that celebrate Hispanic and Latino roots which, in turn, award Hispanic and Latino students with opportunities to create even more contributions and accomplishments.

Spark the Good Scholarship Program

The Spark the Good Scholarship Program is open to students who are pursuing a degree in culinary arts at Dallas College. You must create a recipe featuring avocados and submit a photo of the prepared dish to be eligible for this award. You must also submit an essay explaining how Hispanic culture has impacted or shaped your life. Deadline: 10/15/24
Award Amount: Full - Tuition

CCNMA Latino Journalists of California Scholarship

The CCNMA Latino Journalists of California Scholarship is available to Latino students who reside or attend school in California. You must be pursuing a degree in journalism to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 10/20/24
Award Amount: $500 - $1,000

Sphinx Competition

The Sphinx Competition is open to Black and Latinx classical string players under the age of 30. To be considered, you must submit a video audition in one of the following categories: violin, viola, cello, or bass. Deadline: 10/20/24
Award Amount: $3,000 - $50,000

Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest

The Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to middle and high school students who attend a school in the Optimum service footprint. To be considered, you must choose a person, cultural experience, celebration, or tradition that has helped you to connect to Hispanic culture and explain what that means to you in 500 words or less. Essays must be in English. Deadline: 10/31/24
Award Amount: $3,000

Black and Latino Men Read Essay Contest

The Black and Latino Men Read Essay Contest is available to high school and college students. To be eligible, you must submit a two - page essay about a book that impacted you in any way. Deadline: 10/31/24
Award Amount: $1,000

Haz La U Scholarship

The Haz La U Scholarship is available to high school seniors of Hispanic heritage who enroll at an accredited higher education institution. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a U.S. permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or qualify under the DACA to be eligible for this award. Selected recipient will agree to attend a virtual regional awards ceremony. Deadline: 11/3/24
Award Amount: $2,000 - $10,000

Hispanic Heritage Youth Award

The Hispanic Heritage Youth Award is available to rising high school seniors of Hispanic heritage, including Spanish, Brazilian, and Filipino. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this award. Deadline: 11/3/24
Award Amount: $10,000

Hispanic Lawyers of Illinois Scholarship

The Hispanic Lawyers of Illinois Scholarship is available to Hispanic / Latino law students who have a connection to the state of Illinois. This can be defined as living, have lived, or planning to live in Illinois. Selection is based on academic merit, financial need, and commitment to the Latino community. Deadline: 1/24/25
Award Amount: $5,000

NextGen Latino Leadership Program

The NextGen Latino Leadership Program is available to Latino high school sophomores and juniors who are interested in learning more about civic engagement. Through this all-expenses paid leadership experience, students will spend a week exploring Washington, DC, attend civic engagement and leadership workshops, learn about the legislative process, and build life-long friendships. Students will gain a better understanding of top issues that face the Latino community, learn how to be leaders, and how they can create change and make their voices heard. Deadline: 1/31/25

Andrés y María Cárdenas Family Foundation Scholarship

The Andrés y María Cárdenas Family Foundation Scholarship is available to high school seniors currently enrolled in a high school in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, students who have graduated from a high school in the Northeast San Fernando Valley, and students who are enrolled full - time at Los Angeles Mission College. Deadline: 3/14/25
Award Amount: $750 - $2,000

National Hispanic Business Group Scholarship

The National Hispanic Business Group Scholarship is available to full-time students of Hispanic/Latino heritage residing in the Tri-State Region. You must be pursuing a degree in business, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate financial need to be eligible for this award. Deadline: Varies
