When you’re a senior in college, what will set your application apart from other graduates applying for the same jobs in the business field?
Answer: a business internship.
A
Student Voice survey from Inside Higher Ed and College Pulse revealed that 85% of spring 2022 graduates believed that they needed at least one internship experience before securing their first job. So, take it from your peers; internships are important.
Benefits of an Internship in Business
An internship isn’t a stand-alone event in a student’s life. Rather, it’s the catalyst that propels them through the job search and ultimately, success in their
first job after college. Business internships for college students are a must before graduating.
Gain Real World Experience
An internship is a learning opportunity, and a great internship will prepare you for
real work experience after college. You may pick up the skills you need to do a certain job, but you’ll also learn how to work with a team, conduct yourself in meetings, and network. Essentially, you’ll learn how to work like a real professional, which is invaluable to whatever
job you secure after graduation.
Networking
Speaking of networking, an internship is a great place to start. You will meet many people in different roles throughout your internship. Working with
these people could lead to your first job after college, but it could also lead to a new job or help you with a career change decades down the road. Take advantage of every opportunity to meet people within the company and build relationships.
Improves Your Resume
Finally, an internship will look impressive on your resume. It gives you a leg up on the competition when you have an internship on your resume and others do not. What it tells future employers is that you were ambitious enough to get an internship as an undergrad, worked in a professional environment, and have references who can testify to your skills and capabilities as an employee.
