Ohio University Eastern (OUE) is a regional campus of Ohio University located in St. Clairsville, Ohio. OHIO’s Eastern Campus first opened its doors in 1957 and has served the communities of the Ohio River Valley for over 55 years.
Ohio University Eastern is easily accessible from interstate 70 in Belmont County, Ohio with an enrollment of approximately 985 students.
Ohio University Eastern offers baccalaureate degrees in Applied Management, Communication Studies, Community Health Services, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Exercise Physiology, Health Services Administration, History, Middle Childhood Education, Social Work, Specialized Studies and Technical & Applied Studies. Students can earn a bachelor’s degree in these particular programs without relocating to the main campus in Athens, Ohio.
Students can also begin the coursework for any of Ohio University’s 250 degrees on the Eastern Campus. All of the coursework completed at OUE will transfer seamlessly to the main campus in Athens, Ohio.
Ohio University Eastern has the feel of a small, private school. The average class size is 15, which enables the student to connect well with the faculty. The faculty are truly experts in their fields, evidenced by the fact that over 90 percent of the tenure track faculty have earned their Ph. D.’s.
Ohio University Eastern consists of two modern facilities: Shannon Hall and the Health and Physical Education Center.
Shannon Hall, named for Ohio’s first native born governor, Wilson Shannon, is the primary educational facility on campus. Renovated throughout in recent years, Shannon Hall offers many amenities including the Library & Learning Commons, The Reading Room, The Greenlight Café, The 1957 Lounge, Chemistry and Biology Labs, a 250 seat Theater, and many different classroom settings.
The Health and Physical Education Center was completed in 1997 and is arguably the finest athletic facility located between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Columbus, Ohio. The center is the home to OUE’s athletic programs (men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, golf) and also plays host to many high school playoff contests, including the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) championships and the OHSAA sectional and district finals.
The Health and Physical Education Center features a community fitness center component with a wide range of strength and cardiovascular options. The center is also the home of the Exercise Physiology classrooms and labs.
There are many campus life opportunities at OUE. Students can join the Education Club, the History Club, the National Communication Association, Nerd Club, Rotaract or Zasshi. OUE also offers intercollegiate sports, intramural activities, a Theater department and countless volunteer opportunities on campus.
