Biological and Biomedical Sciences
One of the most popular majors for pre-med students is biology. With a focus on the human body, biology majors study every aspect of life, from cellular makeup to genetics. This challenging but rewarding major is offered in thousands of colleges and universities all over the United States, making it accessible to anyone regardless of their geographical location. Due to the nature of this major and the lab requirements, it is not typically offered as a major at virtual educational institutions.
Classes a biology major could take include: physiology, anatomy, genetics, nutrition, geriatric studies and social courses like psychology. There’s a fair amount of lab work involved with a biology major, and an equal amount of mathematics is required as well.
This is a rapidly growing industry and career paths for biology majors include everything from a lab assistant to a surgeon, depending on the level of study. Biology is also offered at just about every academic level, including graduate studies. Biology majors are in high demand today in almost every healthcare field. It’s an incredibly versatile career path for those with a passion for life sciences.
