You can use social media for good, like getting help on college applications and the scholarship search.
When it comes to high school, there is an unlimited number of questions to ask. These could be as simple as coming together with a first day of school outfit or as complex as deciding what college to go to. No matter how simple or complicated the question is, the internet has an answer. In the past years, the go-to site for all these questions was YouTube, but recently the platforms are TikTok and Instagram. Here is a list of some of the best High School Instagram/TikTok accounts.

This Instagram account provides tips on all aspects of the college application. Within her account, Melody has multiple videos of ‘passion project’ ideas for students with different interest areas. She also goes over building college lists, interpreting college essay prompts, writing college essays, and how to find good scholarships. Ms. Susy has the best account for finding scholarships due to how informative her posts are. All her posts include information about the deadline, the people that can apply, a summary of the scholarship, the amount of money to be gained, and a fun song that resonates with the post. Along with the posts, she frequently goes on live to answer any questions about scholarships.

Miscellaneous Tips

The accounts described above were of an academic nature. However, there is much more to high school than just the academic part. Here are some accounts that offer non-academic advice.

Emily is a neuroscientist who uses her TikTok platform to offer mental health advice on a variety of topics like reducing anxiety, getting better sleep, increasing dopamine levels, etc. She also has advice on how to build confidence and uses her neuroscience knowledge to make fun videos about the brain.

Use Your Social Media for Good

The accounts I recommended are only a glimpse of the plethora of resources that TikTok and Instagram have for high school. However, you can always go back to old-fashioned YouTube for great resources from the past. No matter what platform you use, take advice with a grain of salt. Not everything you come across may resonate with you, so it is important to consult other resources.
