When making choices for your high school class schedule, it is important to
consider classes that are outside of your comfort zone. By participating in classes that may be out of your comfort zone, such as early morning classes, you are able to benefit in many ways; long term and short term.
With all these class options available, it can be difficult to find what classes are right for you, as well as what will be the most beneficial to you in the long run. There are many things to consider, including your
availability as a student, your plans for other classes, and your need for more independent assistance.
Benefits of Early Morning Classes
When considering these schedule planning concerns, one type of class that comes to mind is early morning classes. These classes
prepare you for college and career schedules, encourage the development of skills such as adaptability and responsibility, permit students to have more time later in the day through early release, and allow students to more easily communicate with their teacher and classmates.
Early morning classes prepare you as a student for college classes and careers.
Early morning classes in high school are very similar to many early morning college classes and jobs, due to their shared early start to the day. This similar morning schedule prepares you for your future no matter what road you take.
For instance, early morning classes can prepare you for an early morning college class schedule, which share a great deal of similarity when it comes to being responsible for attending classes and being present in the class. Furthermore, through taking these classes, you
develop a better sleep schedule.
This not only allows you to function better throughout the day but also makes you feel happier, as you are able to get more things that you need to get done, without feeling exhausted.
Early morning classes develop responsibility and adaptability in students.
Early morning classes lead to an increase in responsibility and adaptability in students who participate in them. This is due to the requirement of attending classes on time (earlier than regular classes), while also being able to adjust to the situation of potential cancellation of classes and more immediate deadlines.
In addition, you choose to be in this class, so when adding this class to your schedule you are taking on more responsibility. As a student, you begin to learn ways to keep up with your classwork while having to be up very early.
Additionally, you are given the ability to
create a routine that works best for you. A part of this routine is being at and leaving school early.
Early morning classes allow students to have more free time after class.
At many schools, students are allowed to leave early as a participant in early morning classes. This is not only an incentive to be a part of these classes, but a way to move high school students into adulthood.
Unlike most classes, early morning classes allow students to have a greater amount of flexibility in organizing their daily schedules. While students are still expected to attend their classes, they are given a special right as a student participating in early morning to take one less class and leave early; to either go home and relax or
go to work and get more hours.
However, if students want to participate in an additional college/career preparatory class, they can use the last hour which would be a free period as an early morning student to do so. Both decisions allow students to have more control over what they do regarding schedule planning.
This flexibility as a student effectively moves students into a headspace in which they can more easily adapt to early and tedious college and work schedules.
Early morning classes allow students to more easily connect with their teachers and classmates.
While there is sometimes an average number of students in early morning classes, frequently, early morning classes stay pretty small. This is not a negative, however, as smaller class sizes allow you to better communicate with your teacher.
This means that you can more easily receive hands-on instruction from your teacher, given you need more individual help. In addition, smaller class sizes allow you to
make stronger connections with those in your class. You can meet like-minded individuals whom you can more easily connect with.
Overall, early morning classes are a great choice to make when planning your schedule for the year. They prepare you for your future; whether that be in college or a career,
introduce you to important leadership and adaptability skills, allow for early release from school, and enable you to more easily connect with fellow early morning students and your teacher.
