Pre-college summer programs are a great way for high school students to not only get a taste of college life but also to
bolster their resume - and with January just around the corner, the time to apply for these programs is rapidly approaching. Unfortunately, these programs can be expensive and financially prohibitive for many.
Fear not - there are several
full scholarship summer programs that high schoolers can apply for to gain this valuable experience. This list features some of them that you should consider for this coming summer break.
Full Scholarship Summer Programs
The University of Chicago offers full scholarships to students that can demonstrate financial need.
These programs cover 100% of fees and tuition, including travel, for a three-week college course online and one week in-person focused on the
college application and transition process. It’s a great program for students who may otherwise not be able to afford summer programs!
These programs generally accept applications from January through March.
If you’re interested in studying business in college, consider applying for the Penn State Business Opportunities Summer Session (BOSS). This two-week, residential program, features classes on college prep and business.
This program covers all expenses, save travel, and a small registration fee that may be covered for students who
demonstrate adequate financial need. If you’re looking for a summer activity to prepare yourself for a degree in business, this could be the right fit for you!
The application opened in November and will be open until March 31, 2023.
This summer program is open to students who reside in Los Angeles County and have an interest in
media communications and journalism. Each year, 26 talented students are chosen to participate in this three-week intensive in writing, speech, communication, and more.
Applications for this program open in January.
The Carnegie Mellon University Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) program is a five-week, in-person, full scholarship program for
high school juniors with interest in pursuing STEM degrees in college. This program intends to increase social mobility by providing students with the necessary tools to become successful STEM scholars at prestigious universities around the country.
The application deadline is March 15, 2023.
The New York University Computer Science for Cyber Security Program (CS4CS) is a three-week program focused on the rapidly growing field of cyber security that aims to break down traditional barriers within STEM. In order to be eligible for this program, you must be a high school student in New York City or the immediate surrounding area.
This program is great for anyone eligible who is interested in the subject matter regardless of former involvement. Generally, the application deadline for this program falls during April.
Perhaps the most well-known program on this list, the Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS) is a free, six-week summer program open to current sophomores and juniors. TASS offers two areas of study, Critical Black Studies and Anti-Oppressive Studies.
The program aims to enhance student’s knowledge of how frameworks of power shape our society. The three available program locations are Cornell University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Michigan. Applications are currently available and are due on January 4, 2023.
