In times of crisis, like the California wildfires, organizations create policies to help those impacted.
Colleges are no exception – they do not want students to fret that their chances of getting into the college of their dreams is lost due to circumstances beyond their control. That’s why many colleges have policies to grant application extensions to prospective students affected by natural disasters.
Many colleges, like the examples listed below, have announced application deadline extensions for students affected by the California wildfires.
• California State University (CSU)
• Harvard College
• Oregon State University
• University of California
• University of Southern California
• Humboldt State University*
*Some colleges, like Humboldt State University, will accommodate students affected by California wildfires, but require that students request a deadline extension.
Note: These are just some of the many colleges that have extended deadlines for students affected by recent natural disasters. If you’re a student impacted by the California wildfires – or any other natural disaster – and are concerned about your ability to apply on time, check out colleges’ websites to see if they’ve listed a policy regarding extensions. If you don’t see anything listed, inquire to see if they are willing to grant exemptions due to your circumstances – many colleges will gladly grant extensions in cases such as this.
